Titanium

Grades 1, 2, 3 and 4 titanium belong to the class of commercially pure titanium. The other grades are classed as alloys. Pure titanium is used for applications that require a metal that is highly resistant to corrosion, while alloys are used in the manufacture of products that require a high level of mechanical strength in addition to resistance to corrosion and heat

  • Grade 1: Pure titanium. Relatively low mechanical strength, highly malleable.

  • Grade 2: The most commonly used pure titanium. The best combination of strength, malleability and weldability.

  • Grade 3: A very strong titanium, used in the manufacture of moulds and heat exchangers.

  • Grade 5: The most widely manufactured titanium alloy. Very high mechanical strength. High resistance to heat.

  • Grade 7: Superior resistance to corrosion in oxidizing and reduction atmospheres.

  • Grade 9: Very high mechanical strength and resistance to corrosion.

  • Grade 12: Greater heat resistance than pure, unalloyed titanium. Applications similar to those for grades 7 and 11.

  • Grade 23: 6AI-4V ELI (extra-low interstitial) titanium alloy for surgical implant applications.
