Transformers
Connecting terminals to busbars while isolating equipment vibration.
Electrical contacts · Flexible connections
We supply custom copper braids, laminated flexible connectors and shunts to link busbars, terminals and equipment that must absorb vibration, thermal expansion or movement.
Flexible connections join two conductive points that move relative to each other. They absorb vibration from transformers and machines, compensate for thermal expansion of busbars and allow moving contacts to travel without losing electrical continuity.
There are two main constructions: braids, made of fine copper wires, and laminated connectors, made of thin stacked copper foils. In both cases the ends are compacted to create contact areas that can be drilled and bolted.
Flat or round braids with crimped or compacted terminals at the ends.
Stacks of copper foils with compacted ends, drilled to drawing.
Flexible connections for the moving contacts of contactors and circuit breakers.
| Conductor cross-section | According to the current to be carried and the customer drawing |
|---|---|
| Material | Electrolytic copper |
| Construction | Braided copper wire or stacked copper foils |
| End joining | Diffusion (pressure) welding or brazing, depending on design |
| Finish | Bare, tin-plated or silver-plated copper, to specification |
| Insulation | Optional insulating sleeve, depending on design |
Feasibility, materials, dimensions and tolerances are confirmed for each part number after reviewing drawings, samples or equipment data.

Expansion joints between busbar sections and connections between cabinets.
Flexibles feeding moving contacts during switching.
Power, earthing and pantograph connections in equipment subject to vibration.
High-current connections in rectifiers, cells and electrodes.
A braid is made of fine wires and offers maximum flexibility; a laminated shunt consists of stacked foils and packs more cross-section into less volume. The choice depends on movement, available space and current.
Based on the current, permissible temperature, ventilation and length of the connection. If you do not have this data, we analyse it with you based on the application.
It protects the copper from oxidation and improves contact stability at the bolted joint, especially in aggressive environments or at high temperatures.
